From the Editor's Desk
Dear Readers,
When I was first published, several people advised me to get a website set up. A friend had a site (Bits and Bytes) that I reviewed for and she got me set up with my first site when a host offered her an extra free.
Once the site was set up, it took me several months to learn to use any of it to update or make changes. Once I learned how to start a new page or add to the menu of contents, I decided the site should be used to promote other authors as well as myself.
Again, advice was given to start a newsletter. Well, I knew for certain that a newsletter about myself and my doings would not be very interesting. How many times can one write about eating breakfast, feeding cats, and setting a computer to stare out a window and make it interesting?
So--I decided to take the plunge and set up a newsletter that would contain interviews, reviews, articles, short fiction and anything else of interest about or by authors to serve as promo of them or their work.
Choosing a name might have been the most difficult. I wanted something simple and easily remembered. I finally settled on Voice in the Dark because I felt we authors need as many voices as we can get to speak for us "in the Dark" because as writers, we often step into the dark or the unknown.
The dark is a huge void where we often find ourselves while writing or researching or doing anything related to writing. For instance, undertaking to write a book is a step into that void. The writer is of necessity facing the unknown of how the book will be received, will it get published, will it be interesting, or even will it get finished. Similarly is the brave soul who starts up a publishing house. For them the future is a big unknown. The question of even surviving the first year or two is part of that void we all step into in this business.
Hence, I think the name Voice in the Ddark speaks to those problems and one hopes it is of help to anyone who prepares to join us in the dark.
